The house started with a simple idea, to build a contemporary Thai architecture. So the questions are what is Thai architecture and what is the different between ‘traditional’ and ‘contemporary”? To us, architecture and it’s location should not be considered as separate entities but as a single entity. Architectural form can be influenced not only by physical environment : climates, geography, surrounding , etc, but also cultural, society and politics of it’s place. However, architecture is not just a result of those data in-puts and criteria. The uniqueness of each architecture come from the people who live, use, participate and design it’s spaces. In this project, we try to put multi-function spaces into a simple box, the box that looks complete in it’s shape but still can open up to connect to outer space. The boundary of indoor and outdoor is blurred out as a result of the presence of an open space in an enclosed space and the flexibility of architectural elements. The breathable and openable wall is a key of ventilation and also the element to show how the Thais appreciate light and shadow not only as it’s functional but also sense of beauty. Allowing natural light and air to flow to every corner of the house days and nights will raise the awareness of the changing of the time to the dweller: morning and afternoon, day and night, summer and winter. During the night, sometimes the interior of the house is brightly lit by the light of the full moon while sometimes it disappear into the shadow of the dark moon. The ratio of functions and activities that dominate the house’s spaces is designed to suit the linking stele of the owner. Massive kitchen island and dinning table dominate most of the public area show how much the owner care about the food anyhow much they wanna share with their guest. It is still in a deep root of the thais, the important of food culture. Architecture has always been changes as well as people always change the way they live their lives. It is wrong to freeze the architectural style to any places because architecture is a flux of relationship between space and time. If traditional architecture suit best for traditional living, contemporary architecture is the architecture of how we live our lives now. #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
